Project Description
ASTM A182 F12 is a 1Cr-0.5Mo low-alloy forged steel supplied by SHUNFU METAL for refinery flanges, boiler pressure parts, petrochemical valve bodies, and high-temperature piping components. The forged-grade counterpart to A335 P12 seamless pipe, F12 delivers reliable elevated-temperature strength up to 540°C with proven resistance to oxidation and hydrogen attack in hydrogen-rich process environments. Available in Class 1 and Class 2, F12 forgings are a cost-effective alternative to higher-alloy ASME F11 forgings where a 1% chromium content suffices—making them widely specified for B16.5 flanges, heat exchanger components, and steam piping forgings in moderate-severity refinery and power generation service.
Introduction to ASTM A182 F12
ASTM A182 F12 is a 1Cr-0.5Mo forged alloy steel standardized under ASTM A182/A182M for forged or rolled pipe flanges, forged fittings, valves, and parts for high-temperature service. Its UNS designations are K11562 (Class 1) and K11564 (Class 2). The 1% chromium content provides oxidation resistance and hot strength while maintaining superior fabricability and lower alloy cost compared to 1.25Cr grades. F12 is the forged counterpart to A335 P12 pipe, A213 T12 tube, and A387 Gr.12 plate—forming a complete 1Cr-0.5Mo piping system family. SHUNFU METAL produces F12 forged bars from EAF + LF + VD refined heats, open-die forged on our 6,000-ton hydraulic press, and normalized-and-tempered to Class 1 or Class 2 property levels with full digital furnace chart traceability for every bar.

All F12 bars originate from EAF + LF + VD double-refined heats forged at 1,100–1,200°C initial temperature with finishing above 850°C. Forged bars undergo controlled slow cooling in insulated pits to prevent hydrogen-induced flaking and ensure homogeneous through-thickness properties. SHUNFU METAL performs optical emission spectrometry (OES) verification on every heat and maintains complete melt-to-bar traceability per our API Q1-certified quality system.

SHUNFU METAL Internal Controls:
Low residuals: P+S typically controlled to ≤0.012% through EAF+LF+VD double refining, exceeding ASTM Class 1’s 0.045% P/S limits by a wide margin for improved toughness and weldability.
Tramp element limits: Sn, As, Sb each ≤0.010% to minimize temper embrittlement during long-term elevated-temperature exposure above 375°C.
J-factor = (Si+Mn)×(P+Sn)×10&sup4; ≤ 150 for critical hydrogen service forgings per API 934-A / API 934-C requirements.
Carbon equivalent CE = C+Mn/6+(Cr+Mo+V)/5+(Ni+Cu)/15 typically ≤ 0.57, ensuring excellent field weldability with standard AWS E8018-B2 / ER80S-B2 consumables and minimal preheat requirements (150–200°C).
