Project Description

Introduction

1.4542 (X5CrNiCuNb16-4, AISI 630, 17-4 PH, UNS S17400) is a copper-bearing precipitation hardening stainless steel. With 15–17% Cr, 3–5% Ni, and 3–5% Cu, it achieves exceptional strength levels after aging treatment while retaining good corrosion resistance and toughness. It is a primary material in the aerospace, oil & gas, chemical processing, medical, and nuclear industries.

Per ASTM A564 / A693 (bar & plate); aging designations per common AMS / ASTM practice

Condition Aging Temp. Rm (MPa) Rp0.2 (MPa) A (%) Hardness
Cond. A (solution) ≥ 1000 ≥ 793 ≥ 8 ≤ 38 HRC
H900 482 °C / 1 h ≥ 1310 ≥ 1170 ≥ 10 ≥ 375 HB / ~40 HRC

Solution treatment: 1020–1060 °C, air cool to below 32 °C. H900 delivers peak strength; H1150 offers best toughness and corrosion resistance. Service temperature limit approx. 315 °C (H900) to 370 °C (H1150).
